A BRIEF HISTORY OF THE AMERICAN BRANCH OF THE WORLD RABBIT SCIENCE ASSOCIATION
BREVE HISTORIA DE LA RAMA AMERICANA DE LA ASSOCIACIÓN MUNDIAL DE CUNICULTURA
The World Rabbit Science Association was formed as an umbrella association for the various national branches throughout the world. At the WRSA Congress in Toulouse, France in 1996, the members of the North American Branch decided that there would be benefits gained from organizing a branch including North, Central and South America as well as the Caribbean in which we could tie together our collective rabbit research interests, by developing a website, organizing a congress every four years, developing an electronic discussion group, etc. This organization would be called the American Branch of the World Rabbit Science Association (AB-WRSA) and would meet every four years between the quadrennial meetings of the WRSA.
Steven Lukefahr was elected President, Carlos Becerril, Vice President and James McNitt, Secretary/Treasurer. The first Congress of the AB-WRSA was held in Montecillo, Mexico in 1998. That meeting and the dates and locations of subsequent Congresses and business meetings are shown in the table below.
La Asociación Científica Mundial de Cunicultura se formó como una asociación que agrupa a las diferentes ramas nacionales en todo el mundo. En el Congreso de la WRSA en Toulouse, Francia, en 1996, los miembros de la Rama Norteamericana decidieron que se obtendrían beneficios al organizar una rama que incluyera a Norteamérica, Centro y Sudamérica, además del Caribe, en la cual se pudieran unir los intereses colectivos de la investigación cunícola, a través del desarrollo de una página web, la organización de un congreso cada cuatro años, el desarrollo de un grupo de discusión electrónica, etc. Esta organización sería llamada “La Rama Americana de la Asociación Científica Mundial de Cunicultura (AB-WRSA)” y se reuniría cada cuatro años entre las reuniones cuatrienales de la WRSA.
Steven Lukefahr fue elegido presidente, Carlos Becerril, vicepresidente y James McNitt, Secretario / Tesorero. El primer Congreso de la AB-WRSA se celebró en Montecillo, México en 1998. Esa reunión y las fechas y lugares de congresos y reuniones de trabajo posterior se muestran en la tabla de abajo.
